For reasons that lie in Switzerland and not in the Philippines, we have decided to move our center of life back to Switzerland and will henceforth travel to the Philippines only as “Winter Birds”. For this reason we are putting our property up for sale.
The entire property has a clean land title.
We intend to sell our property with inventory & if desired the car.
The construction of our bungalow started in January 2011. We were able to move in at the end of October 2011. Thanks to a good engineer and a competent crew we can safely say that the house was built in very good quality. Furthermore, thanks to many years of experience in the Philippines, a lot of knowledge has gone into the house. For example, great attention was paid to the ventilation of the building. This has the advantage that the use of aircons can be kept to a minimum, which reflects quite noticeably in the cost of living.
The bungalow offers on a total area of 191m2, a large living & dining room with open kitchen, a master bedroom and a guest bedroom, both with integrated bathroom/WC and another room (currently used as an office), as well as a room for the domestic staff, a guest WC and a small storage room. The kitchen was “imported” from Manila by a specialized kitchen builder. There is also a terrace of abt. 14m2 and a porch of abt. 9m2. An outdoor kitchen for doing the dishes is also available. The house has a TV/Internet cable connection from Kalibo-Cable, which has been converted recently to fiber. A generator with connection to the electric power distribution is available, also a carport for the car. A separate equipment shed houses the water pump & pressure tank (Pedrollo).
The water is pumped up from the groundwater and injected into the system by means of a pressure tank (82 gallons/approx. 300 liters).
The bungalow is located in a fenced corner lot of 2000m2 in Makato Poblacion, about 300/400 meters from the Townhall & the market in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by a well-kept garden.
Price negotiable.

Makato is about 10km away from Kalibo, the provincial capital, where you can find practically everything you would expect in terms of shopping facilities. – Likewise, Boracay, the famous tourist destination, can be reached within a bit more than one hour’s drive.
In Makato itself there are only few shopping possibilities. The town-market, a small 7/11 store and a local shopping center offer a limited range of daily needs. In addition to the local hardware store, a large WILCON home depot & construction supply store is now located in Makato.
The advantage of Aklan, respectively the area of Kalibo is the “Peace & Order” situation which is very good.
Medical care is well ensured with various hospitals, especially Panay Health & St. Gabriel, at least for basic care.
Big advantage: Two international airports are nearby – Kalibo can be reached in about 30-45 minutes (depending on the traffic situation), Caticlan/Boracay – about 65km away in about 75 minutes. Both airports offer several daily connections to Manila. With the return of tourism after the pandemic, direct flights to Hong Kong & Singapore should be available again.
There are relatively few expats in and around Kalibo.- Of course, Boracay (65km away – reachable in about 1 ½ hours) offers a wide selection of shopping facilities, night-life and contact possibilities. In Pandan, also a good hour away, live many expats, mainly Austrians, English and Americans. Many of them are “winter-birds”, who stay in the area from October to March of the following year.
Kalibo offers little in the way of night-life. Good restaurants are few. Iloilo, about 175km away, offers practically everything your heart desires and can be reached in about three and a half hours, thanks to quite acceptable road conditions. Likewise one can fly easily to Manila or Cebu.
